A little switcheroo
So I finally went and had a meeting with my mentor, Mindy, and have decided to change up my research topic. Instead of trying to find the best way to cool a soccer stadium in the middle east I have decided to keep my research local and look into cooling the turf at TCC stadium. During those summer days when temperatures reach up to 40 degrees +, the turf is a nightmare on your feet. Being a soccer player I have to deal with this every summer and don't enjoy it. Im going to look into different ways to cool the turf down and see how much I can cool it.

Hey Kyle,
ReplyDeleteHere's a Case study on a cooling system used at Whittier College in California. Hopefully this can give you some ideas and help you with your research.

Well figured it was my turn to add something to the feel good blog of the year...
ReplyDeleteI saw an article on some other online blog and did some reading into it. Seems like the University of Qatar is doing some major research into your exact topic in preparation for their hosting of the World Cup in 2022. I know it might be a little beyond what you are looking for but they plan on using what they call artificial clouds. A helium filled, remote controlled, solar powered, floating object to block the sun... Kind of begs the question why not just put a roof on the stadium but whatever works; and for the measly sum of $500k a cloud - how can you go wrong. Still, you got it all in there, green power, advanced technology, and some good old fashioned gumption. The clouds could even be carried over to shade other components or aspects of cities.
Anyways, here is one link on the concept, I did not check out the University of Qatar's published work but it might be an idea for you.
